Rescue

Story of 'Huat'

On the 9th January 2011, a young male stray cat was found with a badly wounded hind paw in a drain beside the canteen of Curtin University Singapore.

The 2 students who found him sent him to ARC (Animal Recovery Centre) at Balestier road and antibiotics were provided to hope that can curb the infection.

Thereafter Huat was discharged and the following day it was brought to Kittycare Haven for wound cleaning and nursing.

Upon entry, it was notice to be feverish, possibly indicating that an infection was going on.

The dressing was opened up and we realised that the injured right leg was already ‘dead/mummified’. There wasn’t any response from the cat even when hard pressure was applied onto the paw.

Shockingly we realise that the white portion (as in the photo) was nothing else but exposed bones!! It seems that amputation is the only solution to save the cat’s life.

The left leg looked ok and responsive, thus likely to be fine.

Second opinion was sought from another vet, Dr.Robin Au of Pet Clinic on 12th January 2011.

As expected, immediate amputation and treatment was necessary before the infection spreads to other part of the cat and goes beyond the critical point for treatment.

Huat was hospitalised and operated on the very day.

Strong antibiotics were injected daily for a week at the vet clinic to ensure proper healing of the remaining left leg which can be healed, as well as to prevent spreading of bacteria to other parts of the body via blood stream as the wound had been a few-day old.

Huat was also sterilised at the same time during the amputation surgery to remove the right hind leg.

Huat is discharged on 19th January 2011 and back to Kittycare Haven for recuperation. Huat will become a permanent resident at Kittycare Haven , as Huat could no longer lead the harsh life on the cold streets. He was also vaccinated twice once he had completedly recovered from the operation.

The entire vet bill was kindly sponsored by many well wishers and donars when the appeal went online then. Thank you all for making his rescue possible!

Currently Huat is a happy 3 legged fellow jumping around freely and gets along well with another 15 cats sharing the same unit with him.

Do contact us if you would like to visit Huat at the boarding facility or sponsor his stay.

Story of Kaiser

On March 2012, this friendly male Shih Tzu was found wandering aimlessly in Lim Chu Kang with huge clumps of dirty, badly matted fur all over the body, and he is also injured in one eye. He was starving and gobbled up a huge bowl of dryfood that was given to him immediately when he was found.

We suspect that the poor dog was abandon in the area probably by irresponsible breeders.

Kaiser found a home shortly after his adoption appeals were posted on the Internet and he is now very settled down with his new family.

Kaiser has a place he can call home. A place where he can have daily walks, weekly baths, monthly grooming sessions and most importanly, love from his family members.

Below are his photos, before and after.

Can you see his smile?

Dober's Story

Dober was all skin and bones when he was first sighted in the west side of Singapore in September 2007. What's worse?! On a closer look, he had a raw bloody open wound on his tail that almost slice his tail into half.

Great efforts from the residents in the area gave him hope. Funds were raise from dog lovers in the neighbourhood and he had his very first vet visit and had his tail amputated.

Dober's life change after the incident. He longer need to fight for food, or survive on scrapes of junk food. He is now adopted by a young boy who is working at the Kittycare Haven Boarding facility.

Do visit him if you are at Kittycare Haven.

Story of a rescued cat with cancer growth.

Ginger white boy was rescued in 2007 with a huge raw open wound on the face. Despite the pain from the naked gaping wound, he remain an affectionate cat with the best temperament a cat could have. We decided to give him a second chance.

He was send to the vet and cancer was the cause of the huge growth. Months after countless visits to the vet for reviews, medications and so on, he lost the final battle. Ginger white boy is deeply miss by the staff at the boarding facility. We know he is in a better place now.
